Pete Purvis plays the Highland pipes, Uilleann pipes, Irish whistle, Bass and the occasional tambourine for Gaelic Storm. He comes to us from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 's capital, where there are more snowmobiles than cars parked outside the local pub. (Other bands may be jumping on this whole "low-carb" fad, but Gaelic Storm is proudly 20% REAL Canadian! FDA approved!) This area is famous for its fiddle players, step dancing and maple syrup. He began playing the Highland pipes at the age of 12 and began playing the Uilleann pipes and Irish whistle at the age of 16. Growing up, he had great opportunities to play with some of Canada's finest pipe bands and receive lessons from some of the best-known pipers in the world. It was these lessons from elite pipers at a very young age that helped to mold him into the player he is today.

Pete is a Grade 1 piper, who has played with award-winning pipe bands and ensembles. His musical career has taken him all over the world, even as far as Sydney, Australia to play at the 2000 Olympics. He has an accomplished solo career, winning several championship supreme titles in North America as well as gold medals in both light music and Piobaireachd at the North American championships. Peter is also a member of the Grade 1 City of Chicago Pipe Band.

When he is not on the road with the band Peter teaches the highland pipes, Uilleann pipes and whistle in the Chicago area. His latest endeavor has been his online bagpipe lessons page www.bagpipelesson.com.
